News & Updates
The Youth Centre runs a structured and fun activity based programme in which all young people participate during term time and we summer clubs. We have a team of well experienced staff and dedicated volunteers who manage and run the activities. The activities are vital to a lot of the younger people who have social and financial issues. We use the activities to create friendship, unity and cohesion in the community. Annually we deliver a youth retreat over a weekend alongside 3 other masjids as a pre Ramadhan retreat. These events are very successful for the youth involved due to the Islamic ethos. The plan of the retreat is to involve a lot of fun, games, meals with a number of reminders. These events are hosted in the Lake District where 45 youth are involved and spent a whole weekend engaged in positive reminders and fun activities.
Over the summer holidays we have ran a summer scheme for the last 8 years where we incorporated in house and external trips out. A range of activites are delivered in house and then we incorporate some trips out such as Lazerzone, Flamingo Land etc. We have over 50 students registered for these programmes.
We already run curriculum classes in Maths and English for boys and girls aged 7-11 every Saturday for 3 hours which is already being facilitated from the centre. However we want to expand these services by providing the same opportunities for children aged 11-18, these classes will be held from the centre and will take place on a Saturday afternoon between 11am – 3 pm.
We would like to build upon current sports activities to also offer these facilities to females and expand the types of sports young people are participating in. Young people can come and use the centre freely, and use the centre for their work or just to relax and meet new friends. We use the centre and activities as an intervention to stop young people falling into crime, and bringing some of our Muslim youth out of crime. At the Youth Centre we continue to develop more activities and projects that are in demand to help young people in Keighley realise, recognise, and fulfil their potential and contribute to society.
